Exhibition: Corrine Day – May the Circle Remain Unbroken

Corrine Day – May the Circle Remain Unbroken Looking forward to visiting this exhibition next month which is currently taking place at the Gimpel Fils Gallery in London. May the Circle Remain Unbroken showcases a number of Day’s personal work, taken between 1987 and 1996 which often reference a grittier, realistic side of fashion. Day died three years ago of a brain tumour and the exhibition has been emotionally curated by Day’s husband Mark Szaszy and her best friend and muse Tara St Hill. I’ve always loved Corrine Day, often using her for references in my uni photography projects, and of course those iconic photos of Kate Moss for The Face magazine. To accompany the exhibition, a book of the same name is due to be published by Morel Books. The exhibition runs from 16th October – 23rd November. Find out more about it here.

Bewitching

I love this shoot by Mert and Marcus for Vogue Paris' September issue.  The  black and white images of models Kate Moss and Saskia de Brauw along with the mass of chiffon and decorative oversized headdresses allow for a strong gothic and dark romantic theme. To view the entire editorial click here

Baby Is A Sinner

I introduced Baby Is A Sinner  to everyone at work during our click show-and-tell today. The blog was recommended to me by one of my best friends who works with the blogger Sarah-Louise, and was shortlisted for the Cosmopolitan Blog Awards in 2010. I just love the style of her photo's, in particular The Emerald Coast story. However, it makes me even more depressed to still be in England with no plans of a holiday this summer. Even still, please check it out - definitely one of my favourites at the moment.

Corinne Day 1962-2010

I was sad to read last night that Corinne Day passed away late August of this year. Day, famous for her nineties photographs of London 'It' girls depicting a grimy sense of realism that was more documentary like than other fashion images at the time. Supermodel Kate Moss became a close friend of Day's and appeared as the subject in many of her portraits. I love the realness of her photos and the un-staged postures of her models, they all feel so natural. Day definitely had a huge influence on the style of photography in the nineties. I think my next purchase is going to be a book of her work.

The Cobrasnake

So Anna showed me this really cool photoblog The Cobrasnake- both the blog title and pseudonym for American photographer Mark Hunter. Based in LA, The Cobrasnake takes snaps of the cool kids in the city and LA's underground party scene as well as documenting the parties of mainstream celebrities. Being a massive fan of Michael Cera, I particularly like his Youth in Revolt album- also a brilliant film.
But the one you must check out is the birthday party for Katy Perry. She only went and had a Willy Wonka themed bash, with real life Oompa Loompa's and all! Check out these sweet snaps!
